76th Anniversary of the PostGraduate Assembly in Anesthesiology (PGA76)

The PostGraduate Assembly in Anesthesiology (PGA) is an event, sponsored by the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc., and takes place each December in New York City. The PGA attracts upwards of 4,000 attendees from around the world, and is a global platform for networking and presenting anesthesia’s latest science and technologies. The PGA’s scientific program offers more than 200 sessions, special lectures and hands-on workshops. Attendees have the opportunity to share innovating ideas in perioperative medicine, intensive care, emergency medicine and pain management, as well as evidence-based knowledge of primary clinical relevance.

General Submission Guidelines

• Abstracts must be submitted via the online submission system.
• Submitted abstracts can be edited until submission deadline.
• Submission deadline date is August 22nd, 2022. ​
• Abstracts must be written in proper and grammatically-correct English.
• There is no limit to the number of abstracts that may be submitted.
• The submitting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the abstract content before submission.
• All accepted abstracts will be presented live at the PGA; a presenter is expected to attend the meeting in person and present the poster. 
• Conference registration is required for final poster acceptance. 
• Resident registration is free for NYSSA members and $150 for resident non-members.
• No promotional content of an ineligible company may be included (brand/trade/product names, photos, logos, company names, etc.).
• Abstract submission is text only. Tables and images should be uploaded in final posters only.

• The purpose of the Young Investigator Research Contest is to recognize and reward trainees and young investigators for excellence in original basic science, clinical, or population-based research, as reported in the submitted abstract.
• The work must not have been published in a peer-reviewed journal prior to the presentation date at this meeting.
• The author must have conducted a major portion of the research during their internship, residency or fellowship, personally prepared the abstract, and have completed residency/fellowship training within the last five (5) years (attestation required with submission).
• Prior submission or presentation of this work is permissible and would not disqualify the entry.
• Abstract must include: 
  • Hypothesis (purpose of study).
  • Methods (study design, study dates, research setting, sample or data sources and selection process, inclusion/exclusion criteria, description of intervention, list of outcomes and measurements, description of statistical methods used for analysis, methods used to control for potential confounding/bias).
  • Results (description of what was found, frequencies of outcome variables).
  • Conclusions (significance of the findings, including questions arising from or further implications of the study).
• Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Young Investigator Research Contest Committee.
• Authors whose abstracts are selected for the contest will be contacted by September 1st.
• Monetary prizes will be awarded to contest winners.
• Abstracts not selected for the Young Investigator Research Contest will be reviewed by the Scientific Poster and Exhibit Committee for presentation in the General Session.
• Deadline: August 8th, 2022. 

• This submission category pertains to original research in the field of anesthesiology and its subspecialties; at minimum, preliminary results must be available for acceptance.
• Resident/fellow/medical student submissions must include faculty mentor name and email.
• Abstract must include Hypothesis, Study Design/Methods, Results, and Discussion. 
• Do not include the institution in the abstract body or title.
• Include maximum of three (3) references in the order in which they appear in the abstract.
• Submission should not exceed 500 words.

• This submission category pertains to cases that are unusual, novel, or illustrate innovative perioperative management.
• The primary author must be a resident or medical student.
• Submission must include faculty mentor name and email.
• A minimum of two (2) learning objectives, case description, and discussion are required for submission.
• Do not include the institution in the abstract body or title.
• Include maximum of two (2) references.
• Case description and discussion should not exceed 200 words.

• Quality Improvement (QI) Projects involve systematic, data-guided initiatives or processes designed to improve clinical care, patient safety, health care operations, or for developing new programs or services.
• Submissions must have an introduction, AIM statement, benchmark data, description of intervention, and post-intervention results.
• Resident/fellow/medical student submissions must include faculty mentor name and email.
• Include maximum of two (2) references.
• Submission should not exceed 200 words.
