The 114th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Urology Association

It is my great honor to announce that the 114th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Urological Association will be held over three days from Thursday, April 15 to Saturday, April 17, 2027, at the Kobe International Conference Center, Kobe International Exhibition Hall, and Kobe Portopia Hotel. This will be the first time in 37 years that Sapporo Medical University has hosted this meeting, since Professor Kumamoto organized the 78th Annual Meeting in 1990.
In every aspect of our field—diagnosis, pharmacotherapy, and surgical treatment—urology has undergone rapid advancements that were unimaginable when I became a urologist in 1988. In recent years, we have witnessed remarkable progress in AI, novel imaging technologies, genomic medicine, robot-assisted surgery, and theranostics. Given the pace of these developments, it is difficult to predict with certainty what changes will occur not only in ten years but even in five. Nevertheless, considering the inherently diverse and inclusive nature of urology, I am confident that the future of our field is bright.
As healthcare professionals, we must recognize that while some aspects of medicine must evolve as we look toward the future, others—such as the trust between patients and healthcare providers—must remain unchanged. Amid ongoing reforms to physicians’ working styles, I believe it is essential to reflect on the “immutable” elements within the concept of fueki-ryūkō (the unchanging and the ever-changing). With this in mind, the theme of the 114th Annual Meeting is :“Toward a New Horizon in Urology: Advancing Human Health and Well-being through the Integration of Medicine Science and Clinical Practice.” It may sound simple, but no matter how far medicine advances, I believe that human connection remains the most important foundation of our work.
Although the meeting will take place in Kobe, we plan to highlight the spirit of “Hokkaido” throughout the venue, allowing many attendees to experience the charm of our region, where rich natural beauty thrives. I sincerely look forward to welcoming you to the 114th Annual Meeting in 2027.
