It is a moment of great pride for the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons (IAGES) to be hosting the 20th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery (WCES) at Kolkata, India. It gives us immense pleasure to welcome you all to this flagship conference of the International Federation of Societies of Endoscopic Surgeons (IFSES). As we are all aware, the pandemic has created stress, brought anxiety and disrupted our meeting schedules for over the last 2 years. This has surely developed a gap in the knowledge and skill acquisition concerning our specialties. It is designed to provide academic activity of the highest order, comprising lectures, symposia and interactive sessions on cutting edge technological skill and training by reputed international and national faculty. The Organizing Committee is working tirelessly to put together a world class educational and scientific program for what will be an academic extravaganza replete with tasteful cuisine to tantalize your taste buds and a complete cultural fest. Kolkata is known for its literary, artistic and revolutionary heritage. As the former capital of India, it is the birthplace of modern Indian literary and artistic thought. Kolkata is called the “City of Furious, Creative Energy” as well as the “Cultural Capital of India”. I believe, at this august gathering, we shall be ushered into another modern and exhilarating surgical paradigm. In this backdrop, the conference will allow all delegates to reflect upon and celebrate our past accomplishments, renew friendships, extend networks, and jointly explore current and future research directions.
