The Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons was formed to serve the medicopolitical
needs of cardiothoracic surgeons in Australia and New Zealand. It has amalgamated with the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the RACS. The Society plays an important role in the development of cardiac surgery services in Australia. The Society in conjunction with the Cardiac Society maintains the Journal, Heart Lung and Circulation.

PAPER TYPES
The ANZSCTS ASM 2024 is now accepting abstracts. You must indicate the paper type when submitting your
abstract online from the following categories:
The meeting requests authors to submit abstracts in the following disciplines:
- Cardiac Surgery
- Thoracic Surgery
- Congenital
- Nursing/Allied Health
- Research – Clinical
- Research – Basic Sciences
- Transplant/Assist Device
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Subject to your approval on the abstract submission form, all successful abstracts will be published on the meeting app/meeting publication.
- Authors of research papers who wish to have their abstracts considered for inclusion in the scientific program at the ANZSCTS ASM 2024 must submit their abstract electronically via the website having regard to the closing date of Sunday 21 July 2024. Abstracts submitted after the closing date will not be considered.
- The title should be brief and explicit.
- Research papers should follow the format – Purpose, Methodology, Results, Conclusion.
- Abstracts should be in past tense.
- Include author(s) and indicate the presenting author. Please include full given first name and family name, institution/affiliation and state/city and country.
- Excluding title, authors and institution, the abstract must not exceed 2,000 characters and spaces (approximately 300 words). In Microsoft Word, this count can be determined from the ‘Review’ menu. Any references must be included in this allowance. If you exceed this limit, the excess text will NOT appear in the abstract submission.
- Abbreviations should be used only in common terms. For uncommon terms, the abbreviation should be given in brackets after the first full use of the word.
- Presentations (slide and video) will only have electronic PowerPoint support. Audio visual instructions will be issued to all successful authors
- A 50-word bio is required from each author to facilitate the Chair’s introduction.
- The timing (presentation and discussion) of all papers is at the discretion of the Organising Committee.
- Notification of the timing of presentations will appear in correspondence sent to all successful authors.
- Tables, diagrams, graphs, etc. CANNOT be accepted in the abstract submission. This is due to the limitations of the computer software program.
- Authors must be registrants of the meeting for their abstract to appear in the program or on the website.
- Accepted abstracts will be approved for either verbal presentation or electronic poster display; please indicate if you do not wish to present your abstract in either of these forums.
The submitting author of an abstract will ALWAYS receive email confirmation on receipt of the abstract into the submission site. If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours, it may mean the abstract has not been received. In this circumstance, please email anzsctsasm@surgeons.org to determine why a confirmation email has not been received.
PATRICK PRITZWALD-STEGMANN CARDIOTHORACIC YOUNG ACHIEVERS AWARDApplication Deadline: Sunday 21 July 2024
This award is open to ANZSCTS Trainees only. To be considered for the award, ANZSCTS Trainees must submit an abstract for verbal presentation at the ANZSCTS ASM 2024 and request to be considered for the award at the time of
abstract submission.
The applicant must be the first author of the abstract. Applicants selected by the Organising Committee for verbal presentation will be scheduled to present their paper in the Young Achievers Award session at the ANZSCTS ASM 2024.
The recipient will be announced at the conclusion of the meeting. Only one such award is granted.
