Abstracts will be considered for presentation in one of the following formats:

1. Oral

• A 10-minute oral presentation by an author plus 5 minutes for questions.
• Oral abstracts should be submitted only if an author intends to attend the meeting and present the abstract if accepted. 

2. Poster

• A visual display. An author must be present at the Thursday Evening Poster Session. Posters will be displayed for the entire conference.

PREPARING AN ABSTRACT FOR SUBMISSION

1. Abstracts submitted for the ASFA 2024 Annual Meeting will be published in a Special Abstract Issue of the Journal of Clinical Apheresis. Abstracts will be typeset from the text submitted by the author without copyediting changes. It is the responsibility of the author to proofread the abstract carefully. This includes the author list.
2. The entire body of the abstract must not exceed 3,500 characters. Spaces and images are included in this number. The minimum character limit is 500 characters.
3. The abstract must be structured (i.e., abstracts divided into sections using terms including Title, Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusion).
4. The abstract may be typed or pasted into the structured submission sections. Tables and figures should be converted to jpeg and uploaded.
5. The research presented must not have been published nor is scheduled to be published in a printed or online journal (including abstracts in online-only supplements), or presented or scheduled to be presented at a national or international meeting. Please note that if the same abstract is accepted to be presented at another national or international meeting, then the abstract must be withdrawn from the ASFA Annual Meeting or the other meeting in which it was accepted. The ASFA Annual meeting seeks original work that is not compromised by previous, synchronous or metachronous public presentation or publication.
6. Abstract submissions containing individual, institutional or affiliation names within the title or body of the abstract will be reviewed but will not be eligible for awards. Those presenting abstracts will be responsible for their own travel and meeting expenses. The rules applying to abstracts are indicated on the Abstract Submission System and must be followed.
7. Abstracts with a presenter who is an employee or owner of a publicly traded or privately held company from industry are NOT eligible for an oral presentation or awards due to ACCME CME rules. Industry is defined by ACCME as any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients. Submitters interested in an oral presentation should select as presenter and co-author without an employee/owner relationship as defined, prior to the abstract deadline. Abstracts from authors with employee/owner relationships are eligible for poster presentation.

Best Abstract Awards

ASFA is pleased to offer Best Abstract Awards in the following categories. Abstracts submitted by first/presenting authors from industry are not eligible for an oral presentation or awards (of any kind) due to ACCME CME rules.

ORAL PRESENTATION AWARDS

• Two (2) $500 ASFA Best Abstract Awards

The following awards are open to to both ASFA members and non-members:

ALLIED HEALTH AND JUNIOR INVESTIGATOR ABSTRACT AWARDS

To be eligible for the following awards, the applicant must be the first author and the author who will present the abstract. A Junior Investigator is defined as a physician in training or a physician in practice less than 3 years.

• One (1) $500 ASFA Allied Health Award
• One (1) $500 ASFA Junior Investigator Award

The recipients of all of the above awards will be selected by the ASFA Abstracts Committee. ASFA may reject abstracts that are considered incomplete, unsuitable, or inappropriate for any reason. Abstracts, once submitted, cannot be withdrawn from publication.

Instructions for submission will be available on the Abstract Submission System. Abstracts will NOT be accepted by email, mail, or fax.
