Abstract Submission Instructions

• Deadline is 18 January 2023.
• Abstracts shall be submitted electronically through the SOE 2023 website.
• The abstract must be written in English.
• The title or text is not to indicate the country of origin, unless it is pertinent to the topic.
• Abstract text should be a maximum 2000 characters (including spaces but excluding the title and author details).
• The structure of the abstract should be as follows:
  1. Purpose – Aim of investigation.
  2. Methods – Study design, patients or animals, methods of investigation and analysis, etc.
  3. Results – Results of research with specific data and statistical significance.
  4. Conclusions – Conclusions drawn from the results obtained.  Statements like “results are under discussion” are not acceptable.
  5. This structure does not apply to case presentation abstracts.
• Figures, tables or images are NOT to be included in the abstract.

Classify the abstract with the topic which best describes the abstract:

• It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract; any errors in spelling, grammar, or scientific fact will be published as typed by the author, if accepted. Poor English may be a cause for rejection.
• If you do not complete the submission process, your information will be held in “draft” until you return later to complete your submission. Please note that your abstract must be fully submitted, before the deadline (18 January 2023), to be considered for the Congress.
• Changes to the abstract are possible until 18 January 2023 through your Personal Page.
• Each author may serve as Presenting Author for a maximum of one oral abstract (Free Paper/Rapid Fire), however, there is no maximum limit for posters.
• Full presentation specification will be made available on the website and forwarded together with the abstract acceptance.
• Upon acceptance of the abstract, all presenting authors are expected to register and present their abstract at the Congress. Abstracts will be published in the Congress Book of Abstracts only if the presenting author has registered by 23 March 2023.  Presenting authors not registered by 23 March 2023 may have their abstracts removed from the Book of Abstracts. If the abstract is not accepted the registration fee is refundable.
• The Corresponding Author will receive all correspondence concerning the abstract and is responsible for informing the other authors of the status of the abstract.
• Electronic poster presentations will be uploaded in advance of the Congress. Details will be available on the website and forwarded with the acceptance notification.
• Acknowledgement of abstract receipt will be sent to the stated email address. If you do not receive the confirmation within 24 hours of submission, please contact SOE Abstract Department at: soe2023.scientific@soevision.org.
• Notification of acceptance/rejection of the abstracts will be emailed on or after 7 March 2023.

Disclosure – Conflict of Interest
All presenters (invited speaker and abstract submitter) must declare any potential conflict of interest.  Presenters will also have to incorporate a disclosure slide in their presentation (a template will be included with the presentation guidelines).  Disclosure is mandatory for all presenters, whether they have a conflict of interest to disclose or not.

The registration fees of the SOE 2023 Congress have purposely been kept at a reasonable level, despite the steep rise in costs seen in recent years.  Please note that all registration fees are in euros and include Czech VAT, no extra charges will be added to the fees. The Suturing Courses have limited space, advance registration is therefore recommended.  The Suturing Courses are available at additional costs. *A recent job certification must be submitted with registration for residents/trainees under 40 and Allied Health Professionals. Please forward this by email to SOE2023registration@associationsltd.co.uk ** Young participants who are under the age of 40, and have submitted an abstract and had the abstract accepted pay a reduced fee, if they register and pay on or before 23 March 2023. A copy of ID must be submitted with registration. Please forward this by email to SOE2023registration@associationsltd.co.uk. If the abstract is not accepted, the registration fee is refundable. *** Suturing course registration is only accepted in conjunction with a registration to the SOE 2023 Congress.

Suturing Techniques Course This hands-on course offers trainees and junior doctors an opportunity to learn the core skills to perform ophthalmic suturing. The course will cover the basics of ophthalmic eye surgery, an overview of microsurgical instruments and the theory of different suturing techniques.

Step-by-step video tutorials will guide the participants through their training, allowing them to thoroughly practice the different acts necessary to master ophthalmic suturing.

Each participant will have the opportunity to work at a personal workstation, fully equipped with a microscope and suturing materials. Course directors are Dr. H. Van Cleynenbreugel en Dr. Onne Creten from Belgium, assisted by several experienced instructors. Each course will be supervised by two instructors, allowing for ample time for questions and personal advice.
