Abstract submission guidelines
- Abstract submission types:
- Scientific research
- Case Study/Literature Review/System Change Review/Personal Story/Alternative Format
- Maximum character limit: 2000 characters (excluding title, authors and tables/images). Abstract titles are limited to 130 characters or less.
- Language of submission: English. It is the author’s responsibility to check for typos or grammatical errors before submission.
- Use standard abbreviations only and spell out full at the first mention and follow with the abbreviation in parenthesis. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name is outlined in full in the abstract. Capitalise the first letter of trade names.
- Abstracts should be structured as followed:
- Background and Introduction
- Objectives
- Methods/Description
- Results/Outcome
- Conclusion
- References may be included in the submission and should follow the Vancouver style. Any references included in a reference list must be cited within the abstract text.
- A maximum of 2 tables (or images) is allowed, and each table is limited to a maximum of 10 columns and 10 rows. Images must comply with the following:
- maximum width 500 pixels
- maximum height 500 pixels
- maximum image size 1000 KB
- maximum resolution 600 dpi
- All submitted abstracts must be original research. Any abstract violating copyright laws and/or including plagiarized content will be rejected.
Authors Rules
- Each abstract is permitted a maximum of 1 presenting author and 5 more contributing authors.
- Individuals may co-author multiple abstracts, but there is a maximum of two abstracts per submitting author. It is also not allowed to split one study/dataset into multiple abstracts for submission.
- As a blind review will be conducted, authors should be added separately (in order of involvement) to the submission to ensure proper listing.
Presentation Formats
The Scientific Committee reserves the right to determine whether a submission is accepted as an oral or a poster presentation and its decision is final. The abstract or poster may be scheduled for presentation or display on any day during the conference.
- Oral Abstract Presentation: Sessions for oral abstract presentations are grouped together according to the different submission topics within Emergency Medicine. Each presenter will hold a 10-minute oral presentation, followed by a 2-minute Q&A.
- Poster Presentation: Posters should be displayed on one page only, showing the predefined structure of the abstract in a condensed yet attractive format for quick reading. The posters will be grouped per theme and available to explore at set times at the venue.

*To benefit from the reduced rate for Residents, you must upload a letter from your Head of Department to authenticate your Resident status. The letter should clearly state your name, the name of the hospital and it must show that you are working as Resident during the dates of the conference (13-16 June 2023). You must upload this letter (as pdf or image file) during the online registration process.
**Participants from low-income economies or lower-middle-income economies can benefit from a discounted registration fee. You can find the list of eligible countries on the website of the World Bank here.
***To benefit from the reduced rate for Medical Students, you must authenticate your Student status by uploading a letter from your University Faculty Head of Department. The letter should clearly state your name, the name of the university and it must show that you are enrolled full-time during the dates of the conference (13-16 June 2023). You must upload this letter (as pdf or image file) during the online registration process.
