- The Presenting Author does not need to be a member of the Academy.
- Abstracts that do not have at least one member in current standing will NOT be reviewed.

Accepted abstracts may be scheduled for the following types of formats:
Live Presentation
- Original Paper: Podium presentation with a panel. The presenter must send their condensed manuscript to the panel 4 weeks before the meeting.
- Poster Theater: Moderated e-poster presentations in a small theater setting. Posters are shared with the moderator prior to the meeting.
Presenters of live presentations are expected to register and attend AAO 2021.
Electronic Presentation
- Poster Discussion: Fast-paced poster discussion group, combined by topic, where the presenters serve as the panel and lead the discussion for each other’s presentation. This new and lively format was well received starting at AAO 2019. Posters discussions are pre-recorded in advance of the meeting.
- ePoster Only: Accepted posters that are not scheduled for a live presentation or a poster discussion. Authors are NOT required to attend the meeting. Posters must be submitted prior to the meeting.

- 2021 dues must be paid in full.
- As an additional member benefit, Academy members in training receive a 50 percent discount on all Skills Transfer labs ticket purchases. This discount is automatically applied to the ticket price unless otherwise noted.
Medical Student Member

- Academy Student Members that are currently enrolled in accredited U.S. medical schools
Nonmember Physician
$1,175 Onsite Registration (Sept. 30 - Nov. 15)
- Physicians who are not members of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Nonmember Physician in Training
$475 Onsite Registration (Sept. 30 - Nov. 15)
- Includes full-time participants in ophthalmology residency or fellowship training programs.
- Proof of in-training status must be submitted at the time of registration.
AAOE Member
$150 Onsite Registration (Sept. 30 - Nov. 15)
- Non-ophthalmologist AAOE members only. Ophthalmologists may not use this registration category.
- 2021 dues must be paid in full.
Health Professional
$550 Onsite Registration (Sept. 30 - Nov. 15)
- Non-physician employees of medical facilities, government agencies and educational institutions. Includes healthcare administrators, technicians, assistants, nurses, office support staff, medical students, interns, orthoptists, therapists, ocularists, ophthalmic photographers, researchers (PhD/PharmD) and veterinarians.
- Does not include optometrists.
- Does not include those employed by a business or commercial enterprise (see Commercial Representative category below).
- Health professionals who wish to attend a related group meeting must register for it separately.
Commercial Representative
$2,000 Onsite Registration (Sept. 30 - Nov. 15)
- Employees of an exhibiting company are registered under that company’s participation as Exhibitor Representatives.
- Commercial representatives are non-physician employees of a business or commercial enterprise, with a legitimate business reason to attend AAO 2021, who do not have a product or service to exhibit. Includes financial analysts, managers, executives, consultants and other staff.
- Commercial companies are defined as those involved in research, development, production, manufacturing and/or sales of ophthalmic related products or services. This includes but is not limited to start-up and research companies.
- Commercial representatives who register for AAO 2021 in any other category will have their registration cancelled and payments refunded.
Media
$0
- Media registration is free and open to editorial staff of credentialed media outlets.
- Freelance journalists must have a letter of assignment.
