Vascular Surgery Olympiad 2020 in Tokyo

The 48th Annual Meeting of Japanese Society for Vascular Surgery (“Vascular Surgery Olympiad”) will take place in Tokyo (Keio Plaza Hotel) on the eve of the Olympic Games, from Wednesday, May 27 to Friday, May 29, 2020. In a tribute to the Olympics, we will build on key words such as International, Diversity, Generation, and Training, inviting as many experts as possible from overseas. Most notably, our Aortic Symposium with West and East in the aortic section will feature world-class presentations and dialogues including discussions on medical guidelines. Some additional initiatives suited to the Olympic year are cross-disciplinary diversity debates with internists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and other relevant specialists; the transmission of surgical techniques and knowledge from seasoned veterans to young and mid-level surgeons of the next generation; and the extensive use of English throughout the Meeting. Our focus on communication through still and video images will be at the forefront of our sessions where, in addition to the importance of standard techniques, participants will learn the most advanced surgical and intravascular approaches using state-of-the-art devices. In addition, we will have a range of shorter sessions, such as surgical forums and case presentations to give our younger colleagues as many opportunities as possible to engage in presentations and debate. Furthermore, we will offer full internet access at the venue to allow for a close dynamic interaction between the podium and the floor. We envision that the Meeting will serve to propose a new style of academic conference by providing information in advance and various IT-related enhancements right from the preparatory stage.

In May 2020, on the eve of the Olympic Games, we hope to welcome presenters and participants to the flourishing secondary center of Tokyo for a passionate debate on what lies ahead for our nation in the field of vascular surgery. “Gambare! Nippon”
